Panama-Buena Vista Union School District Music Teacher as part of the music department teaching band, orchestra, chorus and/or general music in elementary or junior high grades and assisting in other after school programs as assigned. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music and in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and/or choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to pupils. Utilizes courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. 2. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and general subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 3. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. 4. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 5. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils. 6. Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required. 7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. 8. Evaluates each pupil's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group. 9. Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community. 10. Applies knowledge of national, state, and district procedures, and limitations set on performances. 11. Selects and requisitions books, musical instruments, and instructional aides; maintains required inventory and music library records to prevent loss or damage to equipment. 12. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. 13. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 14. Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and/or civic functions. 15. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. 16. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. 17. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities. 18. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. 19. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE: Salary according to teacher's placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule. Placement on the schedule is dependent upon qualifications/previous experience. Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance plans; life insurance plan for employees only. Greenfield Union School District Under the supervision of the site administrator, provides an educational program for pupils in grades K-8, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned. Creates a flexible music program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Develop students’ understanding, appreciation of the art of music, including listening a wide range of musical genre, periods and styles. To identify, promote and develop each student’s talents in vocal and instrumental musical expression, in accordance with each pupil’s ability and to meet the California State Standards. Establishes good relationships with parents and other staff members. Supervises instructional aides, student teachers, and parent volunteers when applicable. ESESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Teach music learning activities to students in a classroom utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and aligned to the California Standards. 2. Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the District. 3. Develops balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction. 4. Plans, coordinates rehearsals for, and directs students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom. 5. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 6. Conducts on going assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs: conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. 7. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate. 8. Selects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and instrumental equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order. 9. Communicate with parents through a variety of means. 10. Hold parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual student’s progress and interpret the school program. 11. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 12. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. 13. Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District, school and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 14. Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required. 15.
